The Session:
Portraits can be taken inside or outside, in your home
or mine. My "studio" is very informal and I
generally shoot in the garage for ideal lighting or
other places in my home with optimum lighting. My goal
is to capture the essence of the person being
photographed in a very relaxed setting. Sessions will
usually take 1-2 hours with time for breaks and will
shoot 30+ pictures. I understand the need to feed
babies or take a break now and then. I feel that
making the session as relaxed as possible puts
everyone at ease and the subject may even forget we
are taking photographs, enabling me to achieve more
candid shots. I strive to give you portraits that you
wouldn't get by going to a large department store
studio.

Clothing: Most children are
most comfortable in casual clothing, although
portraits can be as formal or informal as you like.
You can bring along changes of clothes for different
options. I prefer to photograph children with bare
feet. Little toes are too cute to keep covered up.
Overalls are always classic attire and shoot very well
in black and white. Try to avoid "busy" prints
that will take away from the subject. I prefer to
photograph very small infants nude and will NOT expose
any private areas in the photographs. If you prefer
not to photograph nude a diaper or simple outfit works
well.

Props: If there is something
that is sentimental to you and you wish to use it in
the photographs, please feel free to bring it along. I
also have a few props to use, however, I try to
capture the child or person within , rather than the
"posed" picture you get at a large studio.

Hair: Hair should be low
maintenance. If your childs hair tends to get in their
face or mouth and we are shooting outside, please pull
back in a simple style, i.e. barettes. Please also
bring along a brush or comb for touchups if needed.
